Hi, Emily here from LAHH Salon in Bay Harbor Islands. One of the most common questions I hear in the salon is, “How do I keep my hair from turning into a frizz ball the second I walk outside?” If you live here, you already know how the mix of ocean air, humidity, and Florida heat can mess with your style. But the good news is that with the right prep and a few stylist tricks, you can keep your blowout looking smooth all day long.
The fight against frizz actually starts before you even touch a blow dryer. The shampoo and conditioner you choose make a big difference. Look for products that say “smoothing” or “frizz control” on the label. Those are designed to help soften the cuticle so your hair lays flat instead of puffing up.
Regular bath towels are rough and can create static that leads straight to frizz. Instead, use a microfiber towel or even a soft cotton t-shirt. They absorb water without roughing up the hair. You’ll notice your hair already feels smoother before you add a single product.
Here’s where I see a lot of people struggle. They apply way too much product in one spot and then complain their roots feel greasy. The secret is balance and even distribution.
Always finish by combing through to make sure everything is spread evenly from root to tip.
This is where the look comes together. But it’s also the step that gives clients the most trouble at home. Here’s the advice I give all the time:
If handling both a brush and dryer feels impossible, try a blowout brush. It does both jobs at once and makes styling a lot easier.
After you’ve smoothed everything out, add finishing touches to keep your style in place:
This finishing step is what keeps your hair looking fresh from a morning coffee run downtown to dinner along Kane Concourse at night.
One of my regulars, who works right near the salon, used to hate blow-drying her own hair. She said no matter what she did, it would puff up by the time she reached the office. After I showed her this exact routine, she came back smiling and said, “Emily, I didn’t even need to use my flat iron this week.” That’s the goal. Less stress, more good hair days.
Frizz doesn’t have to win. With a little prep, gentle handling, smart product use, and mindful styling, you can get that smooth, salon look at home. And when you want the real deal, whether it’s a professional blow dry, a fresh color service, or makeup for a night out, we’d love to see you at LAHH Salon.
